The Muslim Community Association of Prince Edward Island (MCAPEI) has served the Island’s Muslim community since 1990. We bring people together through faith, education, worship, and community service, while fostering understanding and positive relationships across Prince Edward Island.

Rooted in the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), MCAPEI strives to be a welcoming and supportive home for Muslims of all ages and backgrounds.

Our Story

Founded in 1990 to meet the needs of a growing Muslim community, MCAPEI has developed alongside the families and individuals who call Prince Edward Island home. A landmark moment came on July 14, 2012, when Masjid Dar As-Salam opened as the Island’s first permanent mosque.

The mosque is a place for prayer, learning, and community connection, made possible through the dedication and generosity of community members and supporters. Read the CBC story about its opening.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to nurture a thriving, compassionate, and cohesive Muslim community in Prince Edward Island, grounded in Islamic values and dedicated to serving its members and the broader society.

Our vision is an Island community where Muslim individuals and families can grow in faith, children and youth are supported through learning, and people of different backgrounds build lasting relationships through mutual respect and service.

What We Do

Our work is guided by six core purposes:

  1. Strengthen Islamic faith. Foster spiritual growth by teaching the beliefs, principles, and values of Islam.
  2. Support worship. Establish and maintain mosques and prayer services in accordance with the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah.
  3. Advance Islamic education. Support learning for children and youth, including opportunities for dedicated Islamic schooling.
  4. Help those in need. Offer assistance to individuals and families facing hardship, within and beyond the Muslim community.
  5. Support children, youth, and families. Provide support, counselling, and help with immediate needs during times of crisis.

Policies, Rules and Regulations

To help ensure that activities at Masjid Dar As-Salam are conducted in an orderly, respectful manner consistent with Islamic teachings and etiquette, a committee was formed to develop policies, rules, and regulations for the mosque.

Following several meetings, the committee presented its recommendations to the Executive of the Muslim Community Association of Prince Edward Island. The Executive approved and implemented these recommendations. The policies, rules, and regulations are now official.

Two PDF documents are available below: a summary and the complete policies. We encourage all community members and visitors to read them carefully.
